The "Totentanz" 1931 (Dance of Death) is certainly the most important
work for
piano and orchestra of Wilhelm Kempff. It is written for piano solo,
string or-
chestra, percussion and choir. Since 1945 the work has not been played
until in
1995 Rüdiger Steinfatt reintroduced it at the music festival in
Ankara as well as
for Kempff's 100th birthday in Potsdam, the native place of the master.
In 1998
it was performed for the first time as a ballet (Memmingen Mysterial
festival).
